Presence contains a series of knitwear rooted in the Nordic tradition of structure and tone. As is characteristic of Augustins' designs, each model is created with a simple, tactile line and a language that explores contrast and volume. What all the models in the book have in common is that they are made with a careful attention to the detailing of the simple, while also being welcoming in both gender and size.
The book features a collection of 14 patterns in total, with a width span of 80-150 cm, each knitted in subdued natural tones on large needles.
ANNE-SOPHIE NØRBY VELLING founded what is now the design studio Augustins in 2015, where she develops nostalgically inspired knitting patterns. Over the years, it has become a dual relationship between architecture and knitting, with both fields continually influencing each other in a fine and exploratory manner.
Handicrafts—and expressing oneself through a tactile medium—have always had a strong presence in Anne-Sophie's daily life. As a child, she attended Skals Handicraft School. In her designs, Anne-Sophie is particularly focused on contrasting encounters that form unique structures and volumes, mainly through draping, densification, tactility, and detailing. The use of these components results in a nostalgic expression, whose simple form draws a clear parallel to several architectural principles she engages with in her broader work.
